What Is Online Tutoring? How Live Lessons Work for UAE Families

21 Oct 2026

If you have never tried online tuition before, it is natural to wonder whether it actually works. Most parents picture something passive. A child watching a video, or listening to someone talk through a screen. Live online tutoring is not that.

Here is what it actually involves, and why it works for families across the UAE.

Online tutoring is a live lesson, not a recording

Live online tutoring means a qualified teacher and your child are in the same virtual space at the same time, interacting in real time. It is not a pre-recorded video, a self-paced course or an app with exercises to work through. It is a lesson, with a teacher who can see your child, ask questions, respond to what your child says and adjust the pace on the spot.

That distinction matters. A recording cannot tell when a child is confused. A qualified teacher can, and does something about it.

What happens during a session

At Primary Tutor Project, lessons run via video call with a shared digital whiteboard. Your child can see everything the tutor writes, and the tutor can see your child working in real time. It is genuinely two-way.

A session is planned before it starts. The tutor knows what was covered last time, what the focus for today is, and what the child needs to practise. During the lesson, the tutor checks understanding regularly, adjusts the approach if something is not clicking, and moves on when the child is ready.

After each session, parents receive a written update on what was covered and what to focus on before the next lesson.

What subjects and ages does it cover?

Primary Tutor Project offers live online tuition in English and maths for children aged 5 to 12, covering KS1 and KS2 of the British primary curriculum. For UAE families whose children attend British curriculum international schools, this means lessons align directly with what the school is teaching.

There are two formats available: one-to-one tuition, where your child works with a single dedicated tutor each week, and Tuition Clubs, which are small group sessions. Both are live and are led by UK-qualified primary teachers.

How does it fit around life in the UAE?

This is where online tuition has a practical advantage. There is no commute after a full school day. Lessons happen at home, at a set time each week. Your child logs in, the tutor is there, and the session begins.

For families in the UAE, where school days can be long and traffic adds time to any journey, removing that logistical pressure makes a noticeable difference. A child who is not tired from travelling is in a better position to learn.

Time zones are factored in from the start. Sessions are scheduled at times that work for your family, not just for the tutor.

Is it right for your child?

Live online tuition works best for children who need consistent, focused support from a qualified teacher: children who are falling behind, children who want to keep up, and children who are ready to move ahead.

If your child follows the British curriculum and you are looking for English or maths support, Primary Tutor Project offers a trial session so you can see how it works before committing to a block.
