Marketplace or Dedicated Service? Choosing Online Tutoring in Saudi Arabia

27 Oct 2026

When parents in Saudi Arabia start looking for online tutoring, they may come across two common types of provider: tutoring marketplaces and dedicated tutoring services. Understanding the difference before you book can save time and help you decide which approach best suits your child and your family.

What a tutoring marketplace is

A tutoring marketplace is a platform where tutors list themselves and parents browse and book. Think of it like a directory. The platform provides the infrastructure; the tutors provide the service. The level of tutor vetting, safeguarding checks and ongoing oversight can vary considerably between platforms.

The appeal is obvious. There are usually many tutors to choose from, prices vary widely, and you can filter by subject, availability and rate. For some families, the flexibility and volume of choice is exactly what they want.

There are some practical considerations, though. Because tutors on a marketplace may have different qualifications, experience and teaching approaches, parents often need to spend more time comparing individual profiles and deciding who is the right fit for their child. If the tutor turns out to be unsuitable, you may need to return to the marketplace and find someone else.

Safeguarding is also a consideration. Before booking through a marketplace, it is worth checking what background and safeguarding checks tutors undergo, whether they are interviewed and what procedures are in place for children learning online.

What a dedicated tutoring service is

A dedicated tutoring service employs or contracts a specific team of tutors, sets its own standards and usually has its own recruitment and quality processes. Rather than choosing from an open directory, families are selecting from tutors who have already been recruited by that particular provider.

The trade-off may be less variety. You are not necessarily browsing hundreds of profiles. You are trusting the service to have already done some of the selection process on your behalf. For many parents, particularly those who do not have time to research and vet individual tutors, that can be an appealing arrangement.

A dedicated service may also provide additional structure around tuition, such as consistent lesson formats, feedback after sessions, progress tracking and a clear point of contact if something is not right.

What to ask when comparing providers

Whether you are looking at a marketplace or a dedicated service, a few questions can help you compare your options.

What qualifications and teaching experience do the tutors have? What safeguarding checks does the provider carry out? How will you know what your child has covered in each session? Is there an opportunity to try a lesson before making a longer commitment?

These questions can give you a clearer picture of the support your child will actually receive.

Why this matters in Saudi Arabia

For families in Saudi Arabia whose children attend British curriculum international schools in Riyadh, Jeddah or elsewhere in the Kingdom, it can be helpful to choose a tutor who is familiar with the curriculum your child follows. A tutor who understands the National Curriculum for England, how maths develops across KS1 and KS2 and what is expected in primary English can tailor their support to complement what your child is learning at school.

Primary Tutor Project is a dedicated service. All tutors are UK-qualified primary teachers, personally interviewed before joining the team, and every session comes with written feedback for parents.
